    CAWOOOOOOOCAWOOOOOOOCAWOOOOOOO

what’s that? thats a swan song. joe’s swan song. this is my swan song event as social secretary.
swan song. swong. pavlovely. i can feel you judging me pat.

Hello everyone my name’s joe and i’ve come to tell you the big news.

03 June 2012 is the date we’ve all been waiting for: Ultimate Frisbee Last Social 2k12

    The plan:

We are going for an Indian in a nice little restaurant where we’ll eat great food and have a buuuurrriliant time. We’ll go from here on to a wicked cocktail bar/club that’s not too far away. I won’t be confirming times or places yet, although i have it in mind, as it is too far away to book. Just know that it’ll probably be around 6pm until very late so we have enough time to frolick, catch up and love each other and mate. It’ll be nearish to the strand/covent garden area so very easy to get to. Needless to say, a humongous turnout is expected. Pavlovely.

During the meal, the awards will be done. Here, the winners of each award will receive their independent prizes as prepared by me. They’re all different and all great so I really hope I win one or four. If you haven’t voted yet it is a matter of urgency that you gt on it ASAP and definitely before the event. To vote just email me the following list of awards with your chosen winners next to the award:

    Most valuable player
    Best thrower
Best bromance/homance (i.e. me and lengyel!!!)
Best romance (e.g. lengyel + pretty much all of you girls, me + emily, matthias + mandy or any other romances or embarrassing flings. you know who they/you are!)
    Foghorn (best sideline)
    Dirtiest player
    Biggest drunk
    Best singer
    Worst singer
Mr/Miss Layout (who’s the layout champion?
    Best dressed
    Most improved fresher
    Most fun

Feel free to email them to me at joseph.evans@kcl.ac.uk or over facebook. Just not on here through text. Imagine how awful that would be!

Dress code will be smart. Smarter the better. Even I won’t be wearing jeans so you know it’s smart my friends.

Things to look particularly forward to:
Fun Dan being out, with Captain Dan locked in his cupboard (i assume)
Tall ex-DD Andy downing 8.5 pints
    Cheap cocktails
    Cheesey dance music
    40 frisbee players making love

Wicked. If you have any questions, ask away. Expect more details soon!
Keep the 3rd of June free!

    Love Joe and Harry

p.s. well done Hamid and Hannah getting to be social secs next year! i reckon you will both be super. hamid will get everyone very drunk and hannah will talk to them about sex. it’s the coolest exec role of the coolest society

DUFFA Hat Tournament- 14-15 July. There’s a few of us heading to a hat tournament in July which is going to be amazing. Registration opens tonight, places will go fast. In a Hat tournament, players sign up individually, rather than as part of a team. Each player is then assigned to a team made of people he or she probably doesn’t know. In theory, the names are pulled out of a hat, (thus ”Hat Tournament”) but in actual practice, the teams will be balanced as closely as possible based on each player’s self-ranking. Each team will have players of all fitness and experience levels.

Hat tournaments are a great way for new players to play with seasoned veterans, and a great way for everybody to relax and have fun playing the game. Meeting new friends and socializing is what it’s all about.

Here’s the latest email that’s been sent out with more info:

    ”Visit http://www.duffa.org/hat to register!

DUFFA’s Manchester Hat tournament will be on July 14 and 15 this year. The
tournament is completely non-profit, completely run by volunteers and is
famous for having the very best organisation and the very highest possible
spirit of the game. Everybody camps on site, and we have loads of sideline
games and huge party on Saturday night. We are looking for people who want
friendly, relaxed fun… bonus points if you can help us make sure that we
have plenty of beginners, players from outside the UK, and women.

Here is what we are offering for the £28 fee:
    - A wicking athletic shirt in your size, in your team’s colour
    - Free camping on Friday and Saturday nights
    - Cool stuff like sports massage, the layout bouncy castle, and the
England vs The Rest Of The World Game
    - Free beer for 3-pint challenges (That’s right, we give you beer!)
    - A free meal on Saturday night
    - A massive Saturday night party with our favourite Funk and Soul DJ
switching sets with a live band
    - Water, fruit, sunblock and other little freebies in plentiful quantities
    on the sideline
    - A huge number of really good prizes
    - Superb organisation and information
    - The absolute best possible friendly, fun atmosphere. If you aren’t
    friendly, stay home!

We are especially aiming to attract a high number of beginners, a high
number of women players and a high number of players from outside the UK.
Could you join us this year? Could you help us find the right people?

You can register by visiting our website http://www.duffa.org/hat. Registration is
open now for players who live outside the UK. UK players can register after
7 pm on Monday the 16th of April. Places will go fast!

Here are some of the things players wrote on our feedback survey after last
    year’s tournament:

”High standard of everything! At most tournaments you’ll only get a couple
of good things, like the food might be good but the partys rubbish. At
DUFFA you can tell it’s a non profit event, you can see the time, money and
effort put in. The Party was particularly good and the organisation was
    great.”

”Very well organised, and everyone knew what was going on the whole time.
The massage lady was brilliant, hope she can come again. Music was
fantastic and the volunteers were friendly and helpful.”

”I liked playing with new people, very well run tournament. Good
scoreboards, pitch water, etc. The amount of prizes was brilliant.”

”All the little things like the brass band and stuff made the tourney the
best I’ve ever had the pleasure of attending :)

    I SED A HOLLA 2 MA PEEPLZ

    ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING 2K12

This is the final meeting of the year, where we will be voting in all the new executive positions. I’m sure you all know what an AGM is!

Here are the details of the event:

Old Tea Warehouse pub, 4-8 Creechurch Lane, London, EC3A 5AJ

    Be there at 7pm

    Have fun and be amazing

    TWO IMPORTANT THINGS TO CONSIDDA

BAKE OFF 2K12: bring in your finest baking efforts. it’s been mentioned before and it’s on. IT’S FUCKING ON. get on it. baking means anything you cook in the oven. traditionally it is sweet things only, but if you want to go crazy and go savoury instead then okay but just know that sweet people like sweet foodstuffs and thrown is pretty bloody SWEET. We’ll all try everyone’s efforts then vote on who we think is the best baking champion. Please someone knock Fowzia off her very high baking horse!! (cheating (i.e. buying from a shop or getting your mama to do the cooking (no indian shit thans johann’s mum)) is ill advised (more like a FAKE OFF) as everyone starts to dislike you and eventually ignore you). BAKE OFF 2K12 will be the baking event of the year. masterchef, come dine with me, kitchen nightmares eat your cake out.

    AWARDS 2K12

Start to consider who you will vote to win one of the following awards. Prizes will be distributed at the final social of the year, and are highly sought after! Tomorrow evening you will be given a paper with the following list of awards, next to which you shall vote on who you think deserves to win -

    Most valuable player
    Best thrower
Best bromance/homance (i.e. me and lengyel!!!)
Best romance (e.g. lengyel + pretty much all of you girls, me + emily, matthias + mandy or any other romances or embarrassing flings. you know who they/you are!)
    Foghorn (best sideline)
    Dirtiest player
    Biggest drunk
    Best singer
    Worst singer
Mr/Miss Layout (who’s the layout champion?
    Best dressed
    Most improved fresher
    Most fun

There is also an award for whoever writes down the funniest memory of the year (matthias’ bollocks on the sleeping face)

    LOVELY LOVELY LOVELY LOVELY LOVELY

As a pub that sells food is letting us hold a bakeoff in their function room AND not charging us for the room, they wondered if we’d like their facebook page. I said we’d be delighted to! https://www.facebook.com/theoldteawarehouse Be a dear and click like you sausage

    Yay for AGM!

    Lots of love

Yeah it’s that time of year again. The best wednesday afternoon of the year that everyone should be getting involved with.

    WHAT IS IT?
When the medical school campus plays the other campuses across all sports for the title of best sporting school and the prestigious cup. After 7 straight years of GKT dominance, KCL beat GKT for the first year ever and the medical school want it back. Every sport you can imagine plays (even darts) and then there is a huge party at TuTus.

    WHEN AND WHERE IS IT?
Wednesday 28th, at berrylands sports ground. We’ll be meeting at 12:45 in front of the departure boards in the middle of Waterloo Station.
Then after our match and all the other fixtures are finished there will be results and the presentation then party buses to TuTus for a big night out with guys bar prices.
Plus our game finishes fairly early so plenty of time to get drinks in at the bar.

    WHAT DO I DO?
If you are from the medical/dental/health sciences (i.e. GKT) then email me to say you can play.
If you are from any of the lesser degrees or campuses email JoeTM the strand captain.

Look forward to getting emails from all the GKT winners so we can get ready to crush KCL once again.

    Dan

    Match Reports from UMON!!
Its a biggie. I mean really, this is massive. Spent far too long! But please read, there are some VERY IMPORTANT adminy type things to sort out at the bottom, if nothing else, read them. Ta. x

Wowee this was a fun weekend, such a great turn out and really was a pleasure to be put in charge and captain such a top bunch of people. Shame the weather was so toilet but it did nothing to dampen our spirits throughout the weekend. Big mention has to go to our ladies, all 300 of them it seemed. Especially on Saturday, two teams we played said to me afterwards how great it was that we had more girls on our team than they had people in their squad. Winning!

FRIDAY! We all met at the station, bit of a kerfuffle getting tickets and stuff but those training all managed to get on the right train at the right time, Shih Han had bought some biscuits, I ate them. We played cards. I lost. We were in the way of anyone wanting to walk past or leave the train.
We arrived in Cambridge. We got taxis to a scout hut. We set up thrown camp. I had such a fun time Friday night! We played mafia, excellent. We played ukulele, excellenter. A pleasant time was had by all. We woke up nice and early on Saturday. Not so excellent.

    SATURDAYS MATCHES!!!
Saturdays games were the pool games. We had a pretty nasty pool with Oxford who were seeded 8th, Cardiff who ended up finishing 7th, and York, who were much better than their seed suggested. Cant really remember the scores so i’ll make them up.

    GAME 1 – Oxford. Loss. 13-3
Very pleasant team to play against, ended up winning spirit. Good on them. They were obviously a strong team, their chaps were quality and their ladies very good as well. We didn’t give up though, some sweet discs from Volcano and Josh found the endzone via Gautom and myself. Our ladies really got stuck into the mix as well, we played 4 girls quite a bit and it really started to change the way the game went, unfortunately it was just a little out of our reach throughout. I think if we had an extra half an hour, and it wasn’t absolutely monging it down with rain we would definitely have done better. We did a call, stories. They somehow worked out which members of the team had had a bad haircut a few days previously.

GAME 2 – Cardiff. Loss. Not to 13 though, we scored some.
Back to back games first thing Saturday morning! Great! Again, very strong team, and decently spirited. These lot were obviously a well drilled mixed team. Not just a team of who ever wanted to come along, like we were. But we showed mega strength, our D was absolutely cracking, Jon storming out some layout D like a bawss! Again we played 4 girls quite a bit, partly because we had 11 of them, and partly cos they were awesome! Our handlers moved the disc well, and there were upfield passes a plenty. Unfortunately not everything came our way, a few grabs we should have taken got dropped, some throws that shouldn’t have gone up did. If fortune went the other way and we’d got lucky every now and then it would have been a different story but still, Cardiff came out with a win. Still, we were learning and definitely progressing. Awesome. Cardiff didn’t want to do a call. We made them mix and mingle. Callraped. Take that welsh.
Then we had a few games off. Shih Han ate 2 burgers. I ate my weight in pasta. I got cold. It rained. A lot.

GAME 3 – York. Loss. Closer. Dunno score.
Aah York. I would have liked to have beaten these chumps, but they were fired up and had quality players. We did well against them, but just not well enough. Everyone was playing well. Big style improvements over the day! So great to watch! Kate is absolutely ace! So fast and always free! Liv and Fowz always excellent. Yujia was an absolute hoover. proper safe hands, twice on Saturday and about 3 more times on Sunday she rescued the disc after someone (me) ferociously mis-read it or dropped it. Winner. Ellie was absolutely so good to have on the team, experienced and very talented. Josh was ok. Joe did alright. Shih Han put in some quality cuts and excellent D. Ace! The team was starting to gel together as well, a bit cloggy in the open side, but after i shouted at people it was much better, getting free openside then continuing passes up field. Brill. York were fun. I liked York. We lost though, which meant early showers for us, and a 2 hour wait in the rain before a 11-23 crossover for York. Who’s the real winner? Us.

SHOWERS! GREAT! Loved these showers, mega warm and nice. Fowzia lost a bra. After that we wandered back to the accommodation under Shih Hans expert navigation. We set up camp again, same place. Everyone got ready, we got taxis into Cambridge. Ate noodles. Went to the worlds largest wetherspoons. Drank a lot. Wore novelty Guinness hats. Strolled across to the party. We brought the party. I say that. The girls didn’t arrive til it was shutting. However they were dressed as a bottle of guiness. Nice one ladies. I had such fun. Kate giggled non stop for about 2 hours. I was very drunk. Brilliant. Bumbled back to the scout huts. Set the alarm for monstrously early. Woke up. Got dressed. Walked to pitches. It rained.

    SUNDAY MATCHES!!!
Game 1- Bath! Lost quite a bit. Sad face. Not bagelled though, which was nice.
This team wanted to win this; they went on to win the plate! They were good. We were also good, and we should have done much better. I think a touch of Sunday-morning-itis had kicked in and we just weren’t as good as we were on Saturday. Also somehow we’d lost 7 people over night. There was an epic 20 minute point in which both teams turned over at least a million times. We forced them to drop it, we just dropped it. We should have scored. We didn’t. Still good individual performances all round, we tried zone against them, putting people in positions they hadn’t played in before and everyone coped brilliantly. Turned them a lot but just failed to capitalise on these turns. Oh well, like I said a good team.

Game 2 – Liverpool! WE WON! WAHOOO!
This was ace! Put is in the top bracket for the spoon, so thats all good. We came out hard, despite not having many subs we ran a lot, and really upped the pressure. Our Chelsea Diamond zone worked wonders against this lot, they were a good team but when theres no getting past Fowzia at point, massive D block yards outside their endzone, easy score. Top work. We traded points quite a bit here, but we won a few upwind points as well as the downwinds and it was this slight advantage that helped us keep our lead. Top job folks. Ellie left us, boooooo! But we kept going with the same spirit and passion that she’d brought while there and kept fighting to our first win. Winning. Nice team to play against. Harry brought down some well decent discs. Top lad. We rule.

Game 3 – Brighton. Just lost. Bugger.
Brighton, our buddies in pink from the southcoast. Playing against them really did brigthon up the day. Cheers for that Joe. I enjoyed this game, but i think we did deserve to win. We traded points throughout but they used their massive 6’6” bloke to take down their decent hucks. In all honesty their tall bloke was their only option, I skied him twice on D, as did Jon. Yep, tiny asian Jon got a D against a giant. Marvellous scenes, still they threw to him every opportunity and even him catching 1 in 5 discs led to them scoring quite a few. Our straight up force (or upfront, if you’re lengyel) kicked in to cut down on their hucks, but their swinging between the handlers was bloody effective. Our ladies were far better than their ladies here. But this game just slipped the wrong way. Alas. Also in this game we broke Josh. Bugger.

Game 4 – Durham. Lost. Bugger.
Durham, never played these guys before, so that was fun. Good spirited game, good fun. They beat us, but we never looked out of it, as it happened this turned out to be the spoon final. Unfortunately we did not win, bugger. Straight up force was quality here Shih Han did a stirling job cutting out their hucks, our junk zone was also top notch. However, as josh broke himself in the last game we were playing with just one half decent handler (Joe). Anna and Karen handled excellently though when I gave up trying to throw stuff and returned to running about. Absolutely calm and controlling, nice one Asians. Harry also broke himself a bit. The guys iron manned. The girls had one or 2 subs, so we were running close to empty. Still we put on a champion effort and scored a fair few, I think this was the game Olivia scored in. Great! Nice one Liv. We did well, however they were ahead, used their subs, and played better. Well done durham. We then finished the game by having a good old spoon call. Then layout 5s. This has to be one of my favourite parts of the tournament. High fives, but during a layout. Jons form was excellent. Shih Hans was a classic. Olivia got whiplash. Anna and Karen finally did a layout despite harking on all day about how they wanted to do one in a game. Great fun. Team photo. Train home.

Such a bloody fun tournament! Nationals baby! My first time captaining a team. I had a blast! Everyone came on so much, as a team we proper came together. I would have liked to finish higher, but being the 27th best mixed team in the country isn’t too shoddy. And we finished higher than the godless heathens at UCL. Yay.

My highlights: Skying the Brighton Giant. Jon skying the Brighton Giant. Fowzia getting a faceblock. Liv scoring. Karen scoring a lot. Joes perfect hucks, to no one. The party. Sideline ukulele. Showers. Layout fives. Seeing team improve.

    The team was
SATURDAY: Anna, Karen, Ellie, Emilie, Emily, American Jo, Krishna, Kate, Olivia, Fowzia, Linde, Yugia (LOADS OF GIRLS!!!) Gautom, Johann, Josh, Joe, Jon, Shih Han and myself.

SUNDAY: Anna, Karen, Ellie, Kate, Olivia, Fowzia, Yugia, Harry, Josh, Joe, Jon, Shih Han and myself.

    Brilliant! We voted on…
THE BAAAG the bag the bag the bag: Jon Wong. Layout D champ. Run through blocks. Skied a giant.
MVP: Joe Evans. Solid all bloody weekend, quality handling. Only threw 3 hammer assists.

Few admin type stuff. PLEASE READ IF YOU PLAYED!
KIT!!! I leant kit to Jon, Emilie, Yugia, Krishna, Emily, Jo.
COULD EVERYONE WHO HAS KIT THAT IS NOT THEIRS PLEASE GIVE IT BACK TO ME! Please text me 07531772672 if you have stuff that wants picking up, or bring to fitness Monday. Or Exec on Tuesday. Or Macadam on Wednesday. Lots of Frisbee this week. Winning.

And one small note, i mentioned over the weekend that you might have to pay tournament fees as the club is a tad on the poor side. I’ve done a bit o maths and I reckon people owe me 3.50 per day. Not bad for a decent weekend i think.

    This works out as…
    OWE LARRY 3.50
Gautom, Harry, Johann, Emilie, Emily, Jo, Krishna, Linde, Ellie (played both days but only a few games)
    OWE LARRY 7.00
Larry, Joe E, Josh, Jon Wong, Shi Han, Anna, Karen, Kate, Olivia, Fowzia, Yujia.
I will contact you shortly telling you how you can pay me.

Cheers for reading chaps. This is nearly 2000 words long. If only I could write essays like I write match reports.

    LAST SATURDAY PRACTICE! 1-3 pm
The weather is going to be perfect so get down to Hyde park. we may be a bit further up from our usual spot.

Unfortunately this will be last official practice of 2012 prior to Macadam (Yeah KCL!) and the end of term. Don’t worry the Ultimate has only just begun. I will be posting here about Flump events and practices non-stop and will be arranging the odd pick up game and chuck about in Hyde-park as some of us will be training for Nationals over April (that includes you Ladies).

I’ll go on about this more later but make sure you keep playing over the summer and you’ll notice some serious improvement and can dominate university Ultimate in September.

    Also BURLA! WOOP WOOP!

    See you tomorrow!

    Hello

Make sure you come to the AGM guys, if you don’t you have no say over who runs the club next year. If you don’t go you can still run for a position but your chances off success will be small!

    Annual General Meeting (AGM) details:

    March 27th

    19.00 / 7pm start

At the Old Tea Warehouse pub, 4-8 Creechurch Lane, London, EC3A 5AJ

Say you’re there for the group under the name of Joe Evans in the Boston Bar (named after the Boston Tea Party don’t you know).

It’s a lovely little pub where we will have a nice time and keep Thrown smiling.

Make sure your dress smart or casual smart. A tie would be great! A t-shirt will get you a kick in the bum.

See you all then for frolics and fun.

    Love Joe and Hamid

    Hey Thrown!

If you are a student at strand or waterloo and generally dont want to be associated with the riff raff from GKT drop me an email or let me know at practice if you are representing KCL! We won it last year and we’ll do it again.

BRAAAAP!!! WHAT YOU GONNA DO GKT!

    Captain JoeTM

”lesser degrees” how dare you Daniel! You’re going down for that one! Do you know how important Geography is?!

    Hey frisbeefam,

Does anyone have a football pump they could bring? I have a fitball but its a bit flat. Failing that, does anyone else just have a football they could bring instead? Probs easier.

    MACADAM CUP!!!!!

    Dan
